A winged figure from Uppåkra

Discovered in 2011 during excavation near the foundation of the so-called cult house, directly beneath an intact layer of burnt and fragmented stones — suggesting deliberate deposition. The cult house is one of the richest ritual contexts at Uppåkra: its finds include ornate bowls and beakers, gold foil figures, and objects interpreted as Völund and Odin. Iconography Depicts a winged man dressed in armour and boots, bearded and possibly helmeted. His arms connect to the wings and a feathered tail through a shield-like dotted structure at the centre. On the left wing there are droplets — a detail Helmbrecht links to a specific version of the Völund legend: the drops represent the blood from the murders Völund commits as revenge before escaping by flight.
